Another week in lockdown has passed. Yes, it can be tedious at times, but it doesn't seem like 5 minutes since I was writing last weeks newsletter!

Our new short game area

Although it has only been 7 days since I last reached out, our new short game area has transformed. With the recent good weather Dale and his team have started lowering the cut on the new green.

How good does that look?

I can’t wait to get out there teaching, along with a little bit of practice myself… I think I may need it!

Get and stay fit

Newsletters are normally filled with content of what's going on at the club, but as there is little action I thought I'd share what I have been doing with my spare time. I'd love to know what you have been up to, please let me know!

As many of you are aware I enjoy keeping fit, with gyms currently closed it's been home workouts and a few outdoor runs to get fresh air and use my daily exercise.

Those of you that enjoy keeping fit or want to try and get fitter, I can recommend a local personal trainer that is doing free virtual sessions. She does 5 workouts a week live on her Instagram page, they don't cost anything to watch, require no equipment and there are plenty of mobility and core exercises great for your golf.

I also participated in the "Run For Heroes" challenge this week. This consists of running 5km, nominating 5 friends to do the same, and donating £5 to the NHS. I completed my 5KM in 18 minutes and 27 seconds, if anyone fancies their chances, there's a sleeve of balls waiting for you in the shop if you can beat my time!

Weekly challenge

We want to get as many Drayton Park Golf Club golfers attempting this week’s challenge as possible! It’s a pretty straightforward one so give it a go and let us know how you get on. Who will be the champion?

Keepy Ups - How many can you do?

What to do

Grab your wedge and a golf ball. Head to the garden or give yourself some space inside the house. Now, try to do as many keepy-ups as possible without the ball touching the ground.

Sounds easy, right? 

Get adventurous

If you’re a bit of a show-off, try hitting the ball off your thigh or stopping the ball on your clubface before starting again. You can do this with tennis balls too, or even toilet rolls (apparently).

Golf at home

If any of you are missing golf as much as we are, you’ll be straight onto the course as soon as it’s safe to do so. Well, until that time comes, here’s a little drill for you to try that’ll keep those competitive juices flowing.

Putting drill - try this at home!

The set-up

We’ve used a mug as our makeshift hole, but feel free to use whatever you have lying about the house!

Set your balls down in a straight line from the hole, at one-foot intervals from each other. Starting with the closest, hole each putt without missing. If you miss, go back to the start and try again!

Too easy?

The simplest way to make this drill harder is to increase the distance between each of the balls in your line.

If you’re simply too good and are putting like Tiger, you could try finding a sloping putt or make the target (your makeshift hole) smaller.
